Face ID is coming to MacBooks!
First introduced at the Steve Jobs Theater by Phil Schiller and Craig Federighi, Face ID is a facial recognition method that can be used to unlock users’ screens or authenticate them.
Face ID, which is more preferred than fingerprint authentication, is currently only available on iPhone (after X) and iPad Pro 11-inch on all iPads. However, a recently revealed patent from Apple reveals that it will also come to MacBooks.
It turned out that Apple received a patent to put Face ID technology on MacBooks. This patent, which was displayed on the official website of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, reveals that Face ID can be used when logging into an e-mail account, aside from removing the MacBook’s screen lock.
It is thought that the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models with the M3 chip, which are expected to be introduced next year, will come with Face ID technology. It is estimated that it cannot be used on laptops released before that. Because Face ID needs special hardware.
In fact, Microsoft introduced facial recognition in 2015 for computers running Windows 10 and higher operating system with Windows Hello technology. So for this reason, it is possible to say that Apple is late at this point.
