After learning that Electronic Arts would not develop the popular football game franchise under the name FIFA, the makers of the new FIFA games were intrigued. Things got complicated when Take-Two, the parent company of 2K Sports, announced that it wanted to expand its range of sports games.

Take-Two confirms it will make more sports games

EA Games has announced that it will continue its famous football game series under the name “EA Sports FC”. Thereupon, rumors emerged that different studios showed interest in FIFA 24 (EA will make FIFA 23). The new statement from Take-Two is that the company will stay away from speculation, at least for now.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick told IGN in an interview, “We’re interested in expanding our opportunities in the world of sports and FIFA has a great brand and incredible potential, but we don’t have any plans to talk about right now.”

Actually, this wasn’t the CEO’s first statement regarding FIFA. Strauss Zelnick spoke during the announcement of Take-Two Interactive’s latest financial results. He said the company is aware that the FIFA license will go unclaimed at the end of the year, but that they need to think about the future.

It’s clear that the T2 CEO is trying to be cautious, and he has his reasons. The FIFA brand requires a huge investment, especially the naming rights. We know that FIFA asked EA Games for $2.5 billion for the 10-year license rights to the football game.

It should also be noted that EA Sports FC will hold many team, stadium, league and cup licenses currently in FIFA.

, however, FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s statements show that for a large-scale game, “it’s not going to start from scratch”. “The name FIFA is the only global and original game,” Infantino said. The fixed name is FIFA, it will remain forever and will continue to be the best,” he said.

Reaching millions of players with the NBA 2K series for years, Take-Two has managed to sell more than 123 million NBA 2K games to date. It’s also important to note that 2K Sports also owns the WWE 2K and PGA Tour 2K franchises.
