Less than two months later, Apple will introduce the iPhone 15 series. While we’ve heard a lot of questionable rumors so far, there are also a few features that we’re sure Apple will bring to the iPhone 15. Here are four of them:
Dynamic Island comes to every model
Apple will bring Dynamic Island to every iPhone 15 model, according to screen analyst Ross Young. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman agree. However, this does not mean that every model will have Always-On display technology or ProMotion. Young believes that these two features will be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro series.
Analysts believe that adding Dynamic Island to the base models will help Apple increase sales, as the standard iPhone 14 models generally sell worse than their predecessors.
Separate processor for each model
Gone are the days when Apple offered the same processor for every new iPhone. A trend that started in 2022 will continue into 2023, with the upcoming A17 Bionic chip being exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models, while the “enhanced” A16 Bionic chip will power the base iPhone 15 versions.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects Apple to “aggressively upgrade hardware specifications” for the iPhone 15 Pro as part of its effort to build an ecosystem for the Vision Pro. In an earlier report by Bloomberg, it was stated that the new A17 Bionic chip will use TSMC’s new 3nm process, which offers better performance while requiring about 35% less power.
Periscope lens for iPhone 15 Pro Max
After years of rumors that the periscope lens will eventually come to the iPhone, it looks like the iPhone 15 Pro Max will be the first device to get this new feature. Trendforce, Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo are among the sources who believe in the future of the periscope lens for Apple devices with 5x or 6x optical zoom.
Interestingly, there are also rumors that the periscope lens will be found on next year’s iPhone 16 Pro. Apple’s plans to increase the screen size and reorganize the phone’s internal components means this technological improvement will be permanent.
Lightning port is out of date
When the iPhone’s Lightning port was introduced ten years ago, Apple said the proprietary technology would power its devices for the next ten years. As time progresses, it’s time for the company to switch from Lightning to USB-C. Of course, EU rules also have a big impact on this.
Rumors say the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will have Thunderbolt 4 connection speeds. In contrast, the base models will feature a standard USB-C data transfer. One thing is certain, though: All four models will switch to this new format. This happened sooner than expected because Apple has a new legal requirement in the European Union to comply with.
