The FBI, together with CISA and MS-ISAC, asked users to share information about cryptocurrency hackers.

The FBI is looking for clues as to the whereabouts of hackers with this information they want from users.

FBI Needs More Information

Three major federal agencies in the US, the FBI, CISA, and MS-ISAC, issued a joint statement seeking information on ransomware. Organizations that took action as part of the #StopRansomware campaign issued a joint cybersecurity statement. In addition, these three institutions warned users of Vice Society.

Three major institutions predict a spike in ransomware attacks, primarily targeting educational institutions, and the statement infers about school districts:

“School districts with limited cybersecurity capabilities and scarce resources are often the most vulnerable”

While proactive measures against ransomware are vital, the FBI has asked US citizens to share information that will help them track the whereabouts of hackers. Some of the key information the FBI is looking for includes Bitcoin (BTC) wallet information, ransom notes, and IP addresses associated with the attacker. The main purpose of the FBI is to reach hackers based on this information.

Using wallet addresses, authorities will be able to trace back illegal transactions on Bitcoin’s immutable blockchain, despite the passage of time.
