Michael Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Investment Partners, reminded viewers at the Emerge 2022 conference that Bitcoin itself was born in a period of rapid global change. The expert also talks about his favorite altcoin projects. Here are the details…
Novogratz optimistic about Bitcoin, DeFi, Blockchain
Trust in central institutions is still questioned today. Novogratz listed the war in Ukraine, escalating tensions between the US and China, public distrust of politicians, social media and elections as part of the collapse. Thus, he stated that the trust went to crypto, Blockchain, Bitcoin. But the idea of using Bitcoin as a hedge against global uncertainty and inflation didn’t quite materialize in its price. It has not been able to exceed $50,000 since the beginning of the year.
Bitcoin’s performance is associated with risky technology stocks, while Novogratz believes it will diverge over time. He reminded conference listeners that what started as a science experiment 13 years ago has expanded to a trillion dollars. He also thinks that the influence of decentralized finance (DeFi) and cryptos in general will spread to traditional finance. Despite his optimism about DeFi, Novogratz made no promises about a timeline or which blockchains would lead. It is difficult to identify the lead project because building the infrastructure is complex; Novogratz said it will take at least a few more years for this technology to affect how we live our lives.
Novogratz’s altcoin recommendations
Novogratz said, “As a prudent investor, I think you should have some Ethereum and bet on other protocols you know about.” The investment approach of the famous name is to follow the volume of adoption. This invests if programmers are building on Blockchain and people and businesses are using it at an increasing rate. Otherwise, it’s just hype.
After talking about stablecoins, when it comes to algorithmic stablecoins powered by an algorithm like Terra (LUNA), Novogratz admits they’re riskier. But the returns are higher. He thinks that risks should only be disclosed to participants. Examples of algorithmic stablecoins are coins such as AMpleforth (AMPL), Empty Set Dollar (ESD), Frax (FRAX), Basis Shares (BAS), Basis Cash (BAC), Terra USD (UST).
