Social media has become an environment where new trends are formed day by day. While these currents are entertaining and informative from time to time, they can be extremely dangerous at times. Recipe videos of “1.5 kilos of cheddar cheese from 1 liter of milk”, which have been on the agenda of social media lately, threaten human health.

Under normal conditions, 10-12 liters of cow’s milk is needed to produce 1 kilo of standard cheddar cheese. However, recently, some users give 1.5 kilos of fake cheddar cheese recipes from 1 liter of milk. Experts stated that the given recipes are harmful and that the product obtained in the recipes does not contain cheese, but contains harmful substances such as extra starch and sugar for the body.

Fake cheese making has become common

Cheddar cheese recipe videos, one of the most popular trends in social media, do not reflect the truth. While approximately 12 liters of cow’s milk is required to produce 1 kilogram of cheddar cheese, some users state that they obtain 1.5 kilograms of cheddar cheese from 1 liter of milk and share some recipes.

The spread of fake cheese recipe videos has mobilized food engineers. Ali Manavoğlu, Head of Antalya Branch of the Chamber of Food Engineers, stated that those who shared these videos were playing with people’s health. Stating that cheddar cheese is normally obtained by fermenting from milk and boiling, Manavoğlu stated that the mixture made is not cheddar cheese, but a different food ingredient.

Making a statement about the products obtained in the videos, Manavoğlu said, “There is a lot of starch and some milk in the parts we see in the videos. 10-12 liters of milk should be used for a normal cheddar cheese, but there is a very funny production there. Here, the body takes extra starch, especially sugar. “It can cause weight gain and lubrication. It should definitely not be consumed. Do not mess with such a thing, do not bother. They do it like an experiment at home. This is a method made with a completely different technique, used together with the binding property of starch. It is not right to consume such a product.” said.
