Facebook announced a new feature for Messenger: “Telling you when you take a screenshot…”

Mark Zuckerberg has announced that the company is rolling out an update for “disappearing messages” or “disappearing mode”, which when enabled makes all new messages disappear within 12 hours like Snapchat.

“With the new update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats, you’ll get a notification if someone takes a screenshot of a disappearing message,” the CEO wrote on Facebook. “We’re also adding GIFs, stickers and reactions to encrypted chats.”

In a screenshot accompanying the announcement, you can see that when a screenshot is taken with the disappearing messages setting turned on, you will be notified with the message “[Facebook user’s name] took a screenshot”.

Users responding to the post generally seem to welcome the new feature, but a few say “we’re now going to use another cell phone to take a photo instead of a screenshot”.

The feature is now generally available in the United States and will be available in Europe in the next few weeks, USA Today said.
