Facebook has announced the ‘Live Shopping’ feature, which is the new shopping experience it offers to users in 2020. This feature allowed users to shop through live broadcasts on the platform. According to the latest statements, the company announced that it will stop this feature in the near future. However, there is a reason for my name.
Facebook Live Shopping feature ends October 1
Parent company Meta announced in a blog post Wednesday that it is shutting down Facebook Live Shopping after two years. Starting October 1, users will no longer be able to host Facebook Live Shopping events.
According to the company’s statement, there will be no changes to the Facebook Live feature. Instead, users will not be able to sell only during the live broadcast. In its statement, Facebook stated that the way users use the platform has changed and short videos are more preferred. “As consumers’ viewing behavior shifts to short-form video, we’re shifting our focus to Reels on Facebook and Instagram.”
Because of this, the company will put all its focus on Reels videos. It will also be possible to tag a product in Reels videos or to shop thanks to tags. The country where this live shopping feature, which is a source of income for content producers on Facebook, is used the most was China.
Facebook is not the only platform that has given up on the Live Shopping feature. It also made the same withdrawal in TikTok, which is the rival of Meta. TikTok has stopped bringing its Live Shopping feature to the US. Especially the fact that he did not receive a positive response from the tests in England was more effective in this decision.
According to TikTok reports, general adoption of the Live Shopping feature is still ‘low and new’. Therefore, this resulted in a drop in sales, although it was intended to encourage brands and users to use the platform.
Also last week, Meta reported its first quarterly revenue decline. Competition with TikTok and Apple’s privacy guidelines has become a challenge for the company, according to analysts. It is a matter of curiosity what the next steps of Meta will be.
