Meta, the umbrella organization of Facebook and Instagram, has recently attached great importance to short videos. The company, which allows sharing short videos on both Facebook and Instagram with the feature called Reels, is now taking a new step.
Meta places great emphasis on short videos
Meta introduced the Facebook Reels API for developers to integrate into their apps. With the new feature, users can use the “Share to Reels” option to share short videos directly from Facebook pages via third-party applications.
If a user integrates this feature, they will be able to use third-party apps to post Reels and post on a page they admin. Note, however, that this API does not allow apps to send Reels videos to groups or individual users. The latest feature can be very useful for video editing applications, social media management tools and corporate social media users.
Meta announced that three of its launch partners have already integrated the new Reels API into their platforms. Creative economy platform Jellysmack, social media management tool Sprout Social, and website creation platform Wix currently allow the use of Facebook Reels API.
Meta announced a similar development for Instagram in June. The company had launched the Instagram Reels API for developers to post Reels directly to their Instagram Business accounts. Also, a feature was introduced last month that allows users to post Reels from Instagram to Facebook.
Meta and Mark Zuckerberg put a lot of emphasis on Reels videos. Zuckerberg stated in the results of the second quarter of 2022 that users spend 26% of their time watching Reels on Instagram. Also, the company is known to generate over $1 billion in revenue when it comes to Reels ads.
