Samsung has officially announced the Exynos 2200 processor, which will be used in the European version of the Galaxy S22 series. The Exynos 2200 was planned to be introduced with an event that would normally take place on January 11. However, the South Korean company quietly canceled the event without even informing.
After a 1-week period, the flagship processor with AMD RDNA 2 architecture GPU appeared. Samsung has announced that the Exynos 2200 is currently in mass production. He also explained all the features of the processor.
Exynos 2200 comes with Samsung Xclipse GPU
The Exynos 2200 went through the 4nm manufacturing process like its rival Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. According to the shared information, Samsung used the EUV (Extreme Ultraviolet Lithography) technique in the production process. This technique aims to increase efficiency, speed and quality in production compared to deep ultraviolet – DUV.
The flagship processor meets the graphics need with the Xclipse GPU. The Xclipse graphics processor, described as ‘the one-of-a-kind hybrid GPU placed between the console and the mobile device’, is based on the high-performance AMD RDNA 2 architecture. It can deliver advanced graphics features found on PCs, laptops and consoles, such as hardware accelerated ray tracing (RT) and variable rate shading (VRS).
Equipped with the latest ARM cores
The 8-core Exynos 2200, incorporating ARM’s latest Armv9 CPU cores; The Arm Cortex-X2 flagship core is designed in a three-cluster structure consisting of three performance and efficiency cores Cortex-A710 and four power efficiency-oriented Cortex-A510 cores.
In addition, the Exynos 2200 includes a 3GPP Release 16 5G modem that supports both sub-6GHz and mmWave spectrum bands. The modem speed can be increased up to 10Gbps with the E-UTRAN New Radio – Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) structure, which uses both 4G LTE and 5G NR signals.
200 Megapixel supported ISP
The Exynos 2200 processor includes an Image Signal Processor (ISP) with ultra-high resolution support up to 200 Megapixels. The ISP supports up to 108 Megapixels in single camera mode and 64+36 Megapixels in dual camera mode at 30 FPS.
In addition, up to seven separate image sensors can be connected, and four of them can work simultaneously. It can also record 4K HDR (or 8K) video.
Let’s move on to the video decoding capabilities of the Exynos 2200. Thanks to the multi-format codec (MFC), the processor can decode videos up to 4K at 240 FPS and 8K at 60 FPS. It can also encode up to 4K at 120 FPS and up to 8K at 30 FPS. In addition, the MFC incorporates the power efficient AV1 decoder providing longer playback time. Finally, it should be noted that it supports 144Hz and HDR10+.
