An explosion occurred due to a chemical reaction at around 16.40 today in the part where the wastes of the TÜBİTAK SAGE facility in Ankara, where ammunition such as Bozok, Göktüğ, SOM, Precision Guidance Kit and Penetrating Bomb (NEB) are produced, are temporarily stored. A fire occurred due to the explosion. While one person died in the fire, the fire was extinguished by firefighters.
TÜBİTAK President Hasan Mandal shared the following on the subject:
“According to the first findings today, the fire that broke out as a result of a chemical reaction in the Fuel, Explosives and Primer Design Infrastructure (YAPATA) in our TÜBİTAK SAGE campus was brought under control before it grew, but unfortunately one of our colleagues who was affected by the fire died at the scene.
The necessary judicial and administrative investigation process regarding the incident has been initiated.
May God have mercy on our colleague who passed away in this tragic incident, and I offer patience and condolences to his relatives and loved ones.

In the written statement made by Ankara Governorship, “As a result of the explosion at the TÜBİTAK SAGE facility located in Mamak Gökçeyurt District at 16.40, one of our citizens died at the scene. “The necessary judicial and administrative investigation has been initiated immediately.”
