The fonts used by companies and brands are carefully selected or created to serve a specific purpose in human psychology. For example, Tesla and SpaceX’s font with sharp corners and spaces creates a futuristic perception. So, why is the letter ‘X’ in SpaceX’s logo not compatible with the rest of the text?

If you look at the SpaceX logo, you can see that the font generally lacks some edges (part of the letters A and E) and has sharp lines. But when we come to the letter X, it is seen that one half of the X protrudes beyond the logo and is bent. Here’s what it means, shared firsthand today by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

Musk buzzed for Tesla and SpaceX logos:

Responding to some of the comments about Tesla and SpaceX fonts, Elon Musk also explained what the X in the SpaceX logo represents. Responding to a follower’s comment that “TESLA font is too sweet”, Musk used the following statements:

“I got a little head over heels for the Tesla and SpaceX font design (obviously I love both fonts). There are some similarities, especially the use of negative space. We’ve made a lot of small tweaks over the years.”

What does the ‘X’ design in the SpaceX logo mean?

After Musk mentioned SpaceX, another follower drew attention to the X in the SpaceX logo. Stating that the letter X in the logo is perfect, Musk’s response to the follower was as follows:

“The bending of the X represents the rocket’s arc to orbit.”
