WhatsApp has started rolling out a beta update for Android users that allows them to link another smartphone to their account. This feature is currently limited to some beta testers and may roll out to a wider user base in the coming weeks. This update is said to sync your chat across multiple devices, but some features are still unavailable in peer device mode. Also, Meta’s platform is working on possibilities to connect WhatsApp on Android tablets and better use Do Not Disturb on smartphones.
According to a report by WhatsApp beta tracker WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta v2.22.24.18 update for Android includes peer device mode for smartphones. This feature is said to allow users to connect their current device to another smartphone at the same time.
Users can select ‘Connect a device’ on the app’s registration screen to access this feature. Currently, users are allowed to sync chats across up to four devices. If you use the app from a secondary device, your personal messages and calls are encrypted end-to-end.
However, the ability to view live locations and manage broadcast listings/stickers is not yet available in this update.
Another report states that the beta update of WhatsApp for Android v2.22.24.18 gives users the ability to connect Android tablets to an existing WhatsApp account. This option is said to be under the ‘Connect a device’ menu as ‘Connected devices beta’. The release date of these features is still unknown.
In addition to these, WhatsApp is also said to be working on making the Do Not Disturb API compatible. This feature has reportedly been spotted in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android v2.22.24.17. Also, some users can use this feature by installing the v2.22.2.4.15 beta version. It is also reported that if you miss a call due to do not disturb mode, the missed call will be marked as “Silenced by Do Not Disturb”. This beta update is also currently available to a limited number of beta testers.
