A total of 7.1 billion dollars was spent on product portfolio and R&D studies. The company announced that the ID.4 SUV model, produced in the USA, will come off the assembly line in 2022.

Volkswagen Group of America CEO Scott Keogh said, “When we started investing in electrification, we saw a future for our industry and the North American region where Volkswagen could take a leadership position. The Battery Engineering Lab is helping make that vision a reality today and propels us into the future for decades to come with advanced battery engineering to support our growing strength in the electric vehicle space in North America.” said.

BEL is characterized as the first facility in battery engineering for Volkswagen America. Volkswagen, which has made similar initiatives in Germany and China, has accelerated its work for the MEB vehicle platform.

Volkswagen will be able to simulate an average of one year’s driving (15,000 km) in just one week with the vehicles it uses in the Battery Engineering Laboratory. In another test environment, operating conditions between -70 and 130 degrees Celsius will be simulated.
