With the critical acclaim of Cyberpunk 2077’s 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty expansion, CD Projekt RED has regained its popularity among the gaming community. In a presentation to investors, the company announced that the sci-fi RPG was selling much faster than its previous project, The Witcher 3.
Cyberpunk 2077 has sold more than 25 million copies so far. The company announced a little more than a year ago that the game had surpassed the 20 million mark. The last five million players came to the game in the last 12 months.
Although The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s final sales figures reached an impressive 50 million units, it took almost five years for the fan-favorite RPG to reach 25 million sales; Cyberpunk 2077 reached this figure in three years.

Despite strong sales at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 had a very controversial start due to major performance problems and bugs seen especially in the last generation console versions. In fact, Sony removed the game from the PlayStation store for a while during the height of the controversy.
Another victory from Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty
Another impressive sales statistic from the presentation was for Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty. The expansion was only released a week ago, but in that time the Idris Elba-starring spy thriller expansion has sold three million copies across all platforms.
CD Projekt also shared a sales breakdown, saying that 68% of that three million figure came from PC platforms (10% from CD Projekt’s own GOG store). 20% of sales came from PlayStation 5 and 13% from Xbox Series X|S platforms.
While Phantom Liberty was planned to be the only expansion pack for Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED has already announced that it is planning a sequel. The sequel, codenamed Projekt Orion, is currently in the concept design phase, according to the studio.
