Apple recently introduced iOS 17. The new operating system will be released this fall, but iPhone 8 and iPhone X users will not receive this update.
However, even if you have a compatible iPhone model, you may not be able to enjoy all iOS 17 functionality. Because some features require certain hardware support and this support cannot be given in relatively old models.
iOS 17 features that require at least iPhone 12
To use these iOS 17 features, you need to have at least iPhone 12:
New reactions in FaceTime: iOS 17 lets you add a reaction in FaceTime that fills the camera frame with lots of fun 3D augmented reality effects like hearts, confetti.
More accurate autocorrect: Autocorrect now offers even better support as you type. Auto-corrected words are temporarily underlined so you know what has been changed and you can revert to the original word with a single tap.
Inline prediction: Another improvement for the keyboard is predictions that appear inline as you type. You have to press the Spacebar to finish words or sentences. iPhone 12 and English keyboard are required for this feature.
Point and Speak: This accessibility feature makes it easier for visually impaired people to interact with physical objects containing various text labels.
iOS 17 features that require at least iPhone 14 Pro
To use these iOS 17 features, you’ll need to have at least an iPhone 14 Pro model:
Standby mode: Apple introduced the StandBy feature with iOS 17. Thanks to this feature, which the company calls “a new full-screen experience”, you can make your iPhone even more useful when you turn it sideways while charging. This mode is visible when the iPhone is locked and held horizontally.
With Widget Smart Stacks, you can turn your iPhone into a bedside clock and showcase special moments in your photos.
With Live Events, you can keep up to date with what’s happening in real time, like the game score or the progress of your food delivery.
Finally, Siri takes StandBy to the next level with rich visual results. Now in hands-free mode, it’s much easier to check the weather or set a timer.
