Crypto Mixer ChipMixer Shut Down By Europol
Europol confiscated $46 million worth of Bitcoin and shut down ChipMixer, a crypto transaction mixer, alleging it facilitated money laundering worth $3.8 billion.
Crypto tumbler ChipMixer has been the target of law enforcement as American and European federal officials took action to seize assets and liquidate the platform, according to the announcement from the European Union Law Enforcement Cooperation Agency aka Europol.
US and German authorities shut down the ChipMixer infrastructure for alleged involvement in money laundering activities. Four servers owned by the company seized approximately 1,909 Bitcoins (approximately $46 million) and 7TB of data. Belgian, Polish and Swiss authorities also supported the teams in the investigation.
The platform, which has been operating since 2017, has been shut down after it may have facilitated the laundering of 152,000 BTC worth of crypto assets linked to DarkWeb marketplaces, ransomware, illegal goods smuggling, child exploitation material and stolen crypto.
