For cars with internal combustion engines, the end of the road is in sight. With the new resolution signed by the European Parliament and the Council of Europe, the sale of cars and vans running on fossil fuels such as gasoline and diesel will be banned from 2035.
Selling fossil fuel cars will end in 2035
After months of objection and evaluation studies by automobile brands, the European Union has announced its decision on fossil fuel vehicles. According to the new rules set by the EU, the average carbon emissions of companies in the automobile industry will be reduced by 55 percent.
The EU, which has a 10-year plan, said that pickup truck manufacturers should cut their emissions in half by 2030. As of 2035, the sale of new taxi and van type vehicles with internal combustion engines will be prohibited.
The EU’s latest decision is part of the “Fit to 55” resolution, which was first adopted in June and aims for zero emissions on roads by 2035. The Parliament and the Commission will publish reports on the zero emissions target every two years.
The EU has set a carbon emission reduction of 55 percent by 2035 as the most important criterion. In the official press release, he said the deal would help Europe become “the world’s first climate-neutral continent” by 2050.
