Ethereum developer Péter Szilágyi announced on Twitter that there was a bug in the latest version that caused data loss.

While the upcoming ETH Merge is one of the most anticipated events in the crypto community right now, it is not far from hiccups. However, Ethereum developers are quick to respond to emerging issues.

Unexpected Situation in Ethereum Merge

Ethereum (ETH) software developer Péter Szilágyi announced on Twitter that they found a bug that resulted in an undesirable situation. He explained that it was probably one of the pull requests converging towards the new storage model or online pruner.

In a later update, the developer stated that the issue could most likely corrupt the databases of those running the version and cause data loss. He added that the data loss issue occurs when the system is shut down, so his tests were unable to catch the error.

After the update was released, Szilágyi advised the community to wait until the tests were finished to make sure the development would be “in good condition”. The developer apologized on Twitter for missing the issue during the testing phase and promised to figure out how to run better debugging tests. The developer also thanked the people who helped resolve the issue.
