Equipped with AR technology, the “Infra-Armor Vision System” will be used in 2023

Acceptance tests of the Beyond Armor Vision System, which will transmit 360-degree images to the personnel in battle tanks and armored vehicles with small field of view due to their armor, will be carried out in 2023.

The date has been given for the Beyond Armor Sight System developed by BITES Defense for use in tanks and armored combat vehicles. The system will be used in 2023.

Developed using augmented reality (AR) technology, the Beyond Armor Vision System transfers camera images of armored vehicles to glasses. The personnel wearing the glasses controls the vehicle by seeing the surroundings as if they were outside the vehicle. Situational awareness increases in military vehicles with limited close vision, thanks to the fact that data about the vehicle and the environment are brought to the glasses as well as camera images.

BITES Deputy General Manager Erinç Albayrak, regarding the delivery date of the Beyond Armor Vision System, said, “If our work continues without slowing down, acceptance will be made in 2023.” said.

The Intra-Armor Sight System will first be used on US-made M60 Patton tanks. Then, integration studies will be carried out on other armored combat vehicles. Negotiations are being held with domestic armored vehicle manufacturers.

Albayrak, who gave information about the way the system works, used the following statements:

“If our work continues without slowing down, acceptance will be made in 2023. Armored combat vehicles and tanks are equipped with armor due to their functions during combat. Therefore, their relations with the outside world are weak in visual terms. The situational awareness of the crew and the tank commander is created with the images taken, but as of this point, when we apply augmented reality technology with the right blending of these cameras, we obtain a supportive system in increasing the awareness of what is happening outside the tank on the battlefield. The view of the outside world is brought to the augmented reality glasses he uses according to the commander’s point of view. Thus, the commander looks as if he is in a glass armor. The ibi goes beyond the armor blocking the line of sight, providing a sight. This increases situational awareness on the battlefield.”

Expressing that the system developed by BITES is better than its competitors, Albayrak said:

“I proudly express that our country is at a very important point when we take the major manufacturers and technology giants in the world as a reference for the integration of augmented reality technology to the battlefield. We are in a much better position in terms of integration into the battlefield.”
