Fortnite and Unreal Engine game engine developer Epic Games has announced its partnership with The LEGO Group to develop a metaverse for family and kids. According to the latest statement from the companies, “family-friendly digital experience” and “the opportunity to play in the safe area” will be offered.

Epic Games and The LEGO Group team up to develop a metaverse suitable for kids. The two partners want to create an inspiring and engaging digital platform where children of all ages can have fun together.

What is the children’s metaverse of Epic Games and LEGO?

Although it is still unclear what kind of metaverse the partnership between Fortnite developer Epic Games and LEGO will present, it is quite ambitious according to the statements. As part of the long-term partnership, the companies will create a virtual world suitable for families and children.

As you know, there have been some harassment scandals in the metaverse before. During Meta’s Horizon Worlds game, a female user said she was sexually harassed on the metaverse. Against the increase in such cases, moves came from Epic Games and LEGO.

While details about the two companies’ metaverse are unclear, its likely rivals seem to be Roblox and Minecraft. It was stated that the new metaverse, which was stated to be designed with children’s safety in mind, was founded on three basic principles:

  • It will protect children’s right to play by prioritizing safety and welfare.
  • Will protect children’s privacy beyond their best interests.
  • Children and adults will be given tools that give them control over their digital experience.

While Epic Games wanted to transform Fortnite into more than a battle royale game, it also showed its interest in the metaverse. As you know, Fortnite includes the events of names such as Ariana Grande, Travis Scott and Marshmello.

Epic and LEGO also have a big advantage in terms of licensing. LEGO, which has deals with the world’s biggest brands and well-known artists, including Marvel, DC and Star Wars, can take advantage of these licenses for the children’s metaverse.
