Today, our nature has been badly damaged with industrial production. With the increasing awareness and various restrictions recently, this situation is wanted to be prevented. BMW and MINI brands also aim to adopt a more environmentally friendly policy in production by taking a step in this direction.

Brands that want to act in line with this goal have started to change their production habits. It is desired to minimize the damage to nature by using renewable energy and recyclable materials in production.

BMW and MINI will use green energy in wheel production

BMW and MINI plan to use more renewable energy and recyclable materials in production in the coming years. According to the statement, BMW and its MINI will use aluminum wheels produced using only renewable energy from 2024.

BMW Manager Joachim Post used the following statements about the new green energy policies:

“Green energy is one of the biggest contributors to reducing CO2 emissions in our supply chain. We have signed more than 400 contracts with our suppliers, including wheel and aluminum suppliers, that require them to use green energy.”

Aluminum plays an important role in this environmentally friendly step as it is a material suitable for recycling. The Bavarian brand plans to melt old wheels and reuse aluminum in different materials.

MINI will lead the way in this venture. From 2023, lightweight cast wheels made from 70 percent recycled aluminum will be used on the MINI Countryman. Wheels produced with fully recyclable energy will also help reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent.

This initiative, which only covers rims, may not seem impressive at first. However, let us remind you that approximately 10 million light alloy wheels, 95 percent of which are made of cast aluminum, are used annually within the BMW Group. Considering these figures, we can say that the damage to the environment can be significantly reduced. BMW and MINI will at least have taken an important step towards an environmentally friendly approach to production.
