Apple classifies its expired devices as ‘obsolete’ after seven years. Apple ceases all hardware service for products it deems obsolete and also ends the supply of parts to service providers. The US technology giant has announced that it has added 2 new devices to its ‘obsolete’ products as of today.

First-generation iPad Air and Thunderbolt monitor are obsolete

Apple today added the Thunderbolt Monitor and the first generation iPad Air to its legacy list. With this decision, these devices will no longer be eligible for repair or other hardware services at Apple stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers.

Launched in 2011, the Thunderbolt Monitor features a 27-inch display with 1440p resolution, a 720p camera, three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 800 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port and a Thunderbolt port. Priced at $999, the Thunderbolt Monitor was the last Apple-branded monitor until the Pro Display XDR released in 2019.

The original iPad Air was released in 2013. The first iPad Air with a 9.7-inch display and A7 chip was launched with screen bezels that are 20 percent thinner, 28 percent lighter and 43 percent thinner than the previous generation iPad. It seems that the end of the road has come for the tablet, which attracted great attention when it was first introduced.

Apple also classified the fifth-generation entry-level iPad as ‘classic’. Apple classifies products as ‘vintage’ more than five years after the company stopped distribution for sale. If these devices are repaired and serviced, the product can continue for two more years, depending on the availability of parts.

Apple changes its repair and service services on its aging devices over the years. So what do you think about this policy of Apple? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
