The software giant is not eliminating the Microsoft Office collection, but is making its first major rebrand in 30 years. While brands such as Excel, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint in Microsoft Office continue in the same way, Microsoft will now use Microsoft 365 as the umbrella name.

Microsoft essentially kicked off the change two years ago by renaming their Office 365 subscriptions to Microsoft 365. Now, in the coming months, Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office app for Windows will continue to serve as Microsoft 365 apps with a new icon, a new look, and even more features.

The logo and design changes will appear first on Office.com in November, followed by a refresh of the Office app on Windows, iOS, and Android in January. The move to a centralized Microsoft 365 app for both mobile and desktop will increase functionality at the point of use and sharing.

The Microsoft Office brand will not disappear in an instant

However, the Microsoft Office brand will not disappear in an instant. Microsoft will continue to use this legacy brand for some time in its one-time purchases to consumers and businesses. However, upcoming new features and announcements will come to Microsoft 365 instead of Microsoft Office. As a result, Microsoft 365 will now be home to Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Loop, Clipchamp, Stream, and Microsoft’s new Designer app, bringing services together.
