Japanese technology giant Epson has announced that it will stop selling laser printers until 2026, citing “sustainability” concerns. According to the company, inkjet printers have greater potential than laser printers to make significant advances in protecting the environment.
Although Epson stopped selling laser printers in many markets, it continued to sell in Asia and Europe. Koichi Kubota, Epson sales and marketing manager, explains the reason behind the decision as follows:
“As a company, we are fully committed to sustainable innovation and action. Inkjet printers use less energy and fewer consumables. Whereas laser printers heat toner and work to work it onto the page, Epson’s heatless inkjet technology uses less electricity to use mechanical energy to inject the ink onto the page.” .
Inkjet printers use less energy
“Our printing business will now focus on inkjet printing,” the experienced manager said. In a 2019 Epson blog post, it was stated that inkjet printers consume 85% less energy than comparable laser printers. They also produce up to 85 percent less carbon dioxide.
