American entrepreneur Elon Musk’s X Corp. company seized the @x Twitter account of San Francisco photographer Gene X Hwang. As you know, the social network is currently going through a rebranding process due to a name change.

Hwang said he was willing to sell the @x account he created in 2007, but received an email Tuesday from Twitter that the account had been taken over. The account in question has now turned into the official account of X, which has been chosen as Twitter’s new name.

“They simply took it away from me”

“They simply took it away from me – I knew it could happen,” the photographer said in a statement. Hwang said he was offered some X-brand products and a meeting with the company’s management, but was not paid.

Let us remind you that Twitter users do not have any legal rights over their usernames. The company’s terms of service include a clause that users’ accounts will be removed only in case of trademark infringement.
