A new cryptocurrency called “ElonJet” was launched last week to support the controversial jet tracking project developed by a 19-year-old teenager that Elon Musk tried and failed to shut down.

Young Jack Sweeney, who manages a Twitter page that follows Musk’s private jet, had previously turned down the billionaire’s $5,000 offer to delete the account. Sweeney responded to this offer last week with a request for $50,000 or a Tesla Model 3, which Musk also turned down.

Those behind the ElonJet coin tell Sweeney they want to buy a Tesla, continuing the offer that Musk did not accept. According to its Twitter page, this goal will also be achieved if the ElonJet coin reaches a market cap of $10 million. The coin’s unevaluated value on CoinMarketCap.com was around $3 million on Sunday afternoon.

The ElonJet Coin account has no affiliation or connection to Jack Sweeney and was allegedly blocked by Musk.

“It’s pretty funny what this has become,” Sweeney told Business Insider. “I trust they will keep their word.”

Meme-coins are known as cryptocurrencies associated with internet jokes. Elon Musk is one of the known fans of Dogecoin, a meme-coin that originally started as a joke between two engineers. ElonJet coin is now added to them.

The ElonJet Coin website states, “The concept behind ElonJet [Coin] was inspired by the global popularity of the ‘meme coin’ phenomenon, along with Sweeney’s jet tracking efforts.”

Judging by the words the jet tracker made about his next plans in a conversation with Insider, he doesn’t plan to increase his request for $50,000 to turn off the tracking system. He said that since his project went viral, he has helped multiple people manage the account.

“Our hope is to make all aircraft data available in a decentralized format. This will help drastically reduce carbon emissions and costs as this data will be available to more people globally,” says Sweeney….
