South Korean government’s YouTube channel hacked to stream Elon Musk’s video

On Saturday, the government’s official Youtube channel was hacked, renaming it “SpaceX Invest”. The hackers showed a crypto-related post featuring an interview with Elon Musk after the hack. An official from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who manages the YouTube account, said they became aware of the situation at 6 am. He also stated that they took a security measure and restored the account at 07:20 in the morning.

The official says the account’s identity and password are suspected to have been stolen. YouTube’s parent company Google has confirmed that the channel has been hacked, Yonhap news agency reported. An official from Google Korea said it is currently investigating the cause of the incident. The attack came after a YouTube channel run by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), affiliated with the tourism ministry, was hacked earlier this week.

The channel, which has around 509,000 subscribers, was initially on target Thursday and again the next day, according to KTO. The channel is currently unavailable. A KTO official said that Google automatically blocks access to the account if it detects abnormal links.
