The threads between Elon Musk and Twitter have come to a breaking point. Tesla CEO, who said that he wanted a more detailed report from the company about bots and spam accounts a while ago, has now announced that he will withdraw from the Twitter deal if detailed information is not provided. Will Elon Musk buy Twitter?
Elon Musk defames Twitter over spam and fake accounts
Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed that Twitter hosts more spam and fake accounts than it presents in its financial reports. He even said most recently that he suspended the Twitter deal because those accounts were not publicly disclosed. Now he has threatened the platform with spam and fake accounts.
Tesla CEO, in his last letter to Twitter through his legal officer, stated that he wanted more information on what percentage of accounts on the platform are owned by real people. The Tesla CEO also revealed how serious his claim about spam and bot accounts is.
Twitter management had previously suggested an analytics tool to please Musk. But the billionaire dismissed it, saying Twitter’s testing tools were “pretty careless”. Elon Musk stated that he wants to learn the real numbers instead of Twitter analysis.
In the final file regarding the purchase, it was stated that Musk wanted to know “how many of his 229 million accounts are fake”. He stated that if the information about the users is not given to him, he can cancel the agreement completely. So the $44 billion purchase depends on whether Elon Musk is satisfied or not.
Also, according to the acquisition file, Tesla CEO’s representatives can withdraw from the deal. If the information Musk requested is not provided, they will conclude “a blatant breach of Twitter’s obligations under the merger agreement.”
In addition to this threat, a while ago, according to the statement from Twitter, the waiting period for the $44 billion purchase offer had ended. It was stated that Elon Musk has expired to make a decision under the HSR Antitrust Act.
