SpaceX, of which Elon Musk is the CEO, continues to continue the Starlink project, which it developed with the promise of cheap and fast internet to the whole world. There has been a new important development regarding the project, in which more than 2000 satellites have been sent so far and the total number of satellites is aimed to increase to 42 thousand.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk announced that the prototype of the next generation model of Starlink satellites has been developed during his Starbase tour with The Everyday Astronaut channel. Sharing that this prototype was sent to the Starship factory in South Texas to be stored, Musk also spoke about what has changed in the new generation Starlink satellite.

It will be 4-5 times larger than the previous generation:

  • Difference between Starlink V1.5 and V1.0 satellites.

Musk, in his statement to YouTuber, announced that the next generation satellite, called Starlink Gen2 or V2.0, will weigh 1.25 tons and have a length of 7 meters. In other words, the new generation Starlink satellites will have dimensions that are almost 4-5 times larger than the existing Starlink satellites. In addition, the new generation Starlink satellites will have more advanced capabilities than the previous generation satellites.

Starlink V2.0 satellites, although heavier and larger than the current generation, will be able to provide 5-10 times higher efficiency. The V2.0 satellite, which will be produced in higher numbers than the previous generation Starlink satellites, will be more sustainable and profitable on paper than the previous generation.
