Elon Musk, the outspoken CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has hit back at companies like Apple and Disney for deciding to stop advertising on X, formerly known as Twitter. And he responded quite harshly.
Elon Musk: “F*ck you. Understood?
These companies were prompted to take action by Musk’s controversial posts on the platform, including “anti-Semitic” content, as well as reports that Apple ads appeared alongside far-right conspiracy theories and anti-Semitic material.
Musk did not hold back his reaction in his interview with Andrew Ross Sorkin at The New York Times DealBook Summit. Musk interrupted Sorkin’s question about advertising cuts and said, “I hope they stop advertising. Do not advertise. If someone is going to try to blackmail me with advertising, blackmail me with money… s*** it. Go f***. Understood? said.
The Tesla CEO then waved to Disney CEO Bob Iger, who was at the event, and greeted him with a cheerful “Hi Bob!” he greeted.
Musk predicted dire consequences for X, claiming that an advertising boycott would lead to the death of the platform. “What this ad boycott will do is kill X. “The whole world will know that these advertisers are killing the company, and we will document it in detail.”
The ad pause on X has gained momentum, and more than 100 brands are reportedly following Apple’s lead. X’s internal estimates indicate potential revenue losses due to the boycott in excess of $75 million. Despite this, Apple did not announce the duration of the advertising outage on Twitter, creating uncertainty about the company’s future plans for the platform.
