Tesla CEO Elon Musk was in Brazil on Friday. Musk, who went to Brazil to launch a program to connect local government and Amazon regions to SpaceX’s Starlink satellite-based internet, also answered local journalists’ questions about Tesla.
Elon Musk marked the year 2023!
Elon Musk told reporters in Brazil that Tesla will have self-driving cars this time next year without the need for human drivers behind the wheel for control. Musk showed the year 2023 as the date.
Musk claimed that about a year from now, around May 2023, Tesla will have cars that can drive themselves without the need for people behind the wheel. Musk has made this statement before.
Elon Musk previously stated that Tesla will have 1 million robotaxis on the roads by the end of 2022. Recently, Musk changed Tesla’s target of 1 million robotaxes for the end of this year to “1 million people in FSD Beta”.
The term “Robotaxi” refers to Tesla’s new initiative that operates without a driver at the wheel. On the other hand, Tesla’s Fully Autonomous Driving (FSD) Beta has all the features of the autonomous driving system. However, the system, which can fail in some cases, requires a driver behind the wheel. Drivers can avoid bad consequences by taking control in any other situation.
By increasing the number of people in the beta stage, it is aimed to test Tesla’s FSD system in a wider framework and to develop the system by collecting more data. With enough improvements, Tesla hopes the FSD system will eventually become safe enough to be used without the need for driver assistance. However, the security of this system, which should contain many variables, is still questioned. The fact that Elon Musk has made similar statements before has increased suspicion against self-driving cars.
So what do you think about self-driving cars, when do you think Tesla will launch fully autonomous vehicles on the roads? You can share your views with us in the comments section.
