Artificial intelligence seeking truth
“I’m going to launch something I call TruthGPT, or a maximum accuracy-seeking artificial intelligence that tries to sense the nature of the universe,” Musk told Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight on Monday evening. Musk said in a statement that TruthGPT “could be the best route to safety in the sense that an AI that cares about understanding the universe is less likely to destroy humans because we are an interesting part of the universe.”
Musk’s entry into the burgeoning AI market comes long after OpenAI’s ChatGPT was released in November. Built on a powerful artificial intelligence engine, the chatbot can write software, chat and compose poetry. Microsoft has already integrated the technology into the Bing search engine, rapidly expanding its partnership with ChatGPT maker OpenAI. Unable to get up to speed, Google has launched its own artificial intelligence speech engine, Bard, although it clearly stumbled upon launch.
It can destroy civilization
In an interview in 2014, Musk expressed similar concerns about how fast artificial intelligence was advancing and said he was concerned that “something could be harmful to humanity”. Musk has dealt with artificial intelligence before. In 2015, he co-founded the company OpenAI, which he is now trying to challenge. He was chairman of the company until 2018—until he resigned over concerns of conflict of interest. Musk has since severed ties with OpenAI.
According to Musk, OpenAI is now out of its orbit. Founded as a for-profit company, OpenAI has become a “for-profit” organization that is now “closed source” and closely allied with Microsoft, according to Musk, after billions of dollars in investments by Microsoft. While Musk admits that it is a little late for TruthGPT, he also underlines that he will try to create a third option.
