Elon Musk explained why he wanted to buy Twitter.

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk spoke at the TED conference about his motivation for wanting to buy Twitter. Describing Twitter as a “city square”, Musk said the platform should be inclusive on freedom of expression. Musk said:

“My strong intuitive understanding is that having a public platform that is maximally reliable and broadly inclusive is paramount to the future of civilization. The more we can build trust in Twitter as a public platform, the less the risk of civilization will be.”

Musk once again emphasized that the Twitter algorithm should be open source. As we reported earlier, Musk started a discussion that Twitter should be open source before it came to the fore with the said acquisition offer.

Similarly, he wants to eliminate spam and fraud bots, which is also one of the issues that Twitter criticizes:

“If only I had a Dogecoin for every crypto scam I saw…”

Musk also made a statement on the controversial issue on social media, making it clear that he has the money to buy the company:

“Technically I can afford it… But that’s not a way to make money. (…) I don’t care about the economy.”

As we have previously reported, Musk had bought 9.2% of Twitter. However, shortly after that, he announced that he would not be joining the board of directors.
