There has been an important development regarding the humanoid robot Optimus project, which Tesla has been working on for a while. It turned out that CEO Elon Musk announced how many artificial intelligence-supported robots have been produced so far, during the 2nd quarter financial situation meeting held yesterday. The statement made by Elon Musk reveals that Tesla is far from its target.
Billionaire businessman Elon Musk has been talking about Tesla’s robots for years. In fact, in 2021, these robots were introduced in general terms for the first time. The project, which has been going on for years, hosted an important development towards the end of last year. Tesla demonstrated the first prototype of the robot. A few months ago, the last point of the humanoid robot, also known as Tesla Bot, was shared. Optimus could now move on his own.
Only 5-6 humanoid robots have been produced so far!
Making a statement on an investor’s question, Elon Musk said: I think we are around 5 or 6 … Every month there is more. There are many interesting things about the Optimus robot.
When they had supply problems, they had to cut their own belly…
According to the information received, Tesla had a problem in the supply process of the part called “actuator”, which allows the movement of robots. In fact, there are many companies that can do this, but Tesla did not like any of the actuators produced. As such, Tesla, which took action to produce its own actuators, was seriously delayed for the mass production phase. Of course, it is not clear what will happen in the future. Elon Musk’s statement on this issue was as follows:
We had to design our own actuators that integrate motors, power electronics, controller, sensors. And really, each one is custom designed. But when we design these actuators, we design them for mass production. As such, not only are they lighter, firmer and more capable than any other actuator, wherever they are located in the world, they are truly manufacturable. So we should be able to put them into mass production.
This statement by Elon Musk reveals that Tesla still has a long way to go for humanoid robots. If the process isn’t sped up somehow, things can get a lot more gruesome…
