As electric cars become more widespread, countries are increasing their investments. While electric car (EV) charging station initiatives are continuing in many parts of the world, a different initiative came from the USA. The Michigan Governor’s Office has announced its first ever “Public Wireless On-Road Charging System” initiative, which will allow EVs to charge cars on the road both while in motion and at a standstill.

For the system currently in testing, the Michigan Department of Transportation awarded Electreon a $1.9 million deal to install one mile of on-road EV charging in Motor City. . The system, which is the first in the USA, is desired to be offered to the whole country after the success test phase. Regarding the issue, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer made the following statements.

We aim to lead the future of mobility and electrification by increasing electric vehicle production and reducing consumer costs. That’s why a wireless on-road charging system is the next piece of the sustainability puzzle. I’m happy to see Michigan lead the way and continue to develop these groundbreaking initiatives ready to create new job opportunities and high-tech jobs.

Electreon’s vice president of business development in the USA, Stefan Tongur, believes this system will be a very important element in electric car technology. The Michigan project, which has started work, is expected to be operational in 2023.
