In 1889, when Gustave Eiffel built the Eiffel Tower for the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution, it was said that this giant structure would only have a 20-year lifespan. Over time, both the interest in the tower and its ability to serve technologies such as radio signals and broadcasts brought the Eiffel up to the present day.

When it comes to such an iconic structure, its maintenance also creates serious costs. The French Government has decided to renew the paint of the tower before the Olympic Games to be held in 2024. It is stated that a serious budget of 60 million euros has been allocated for this work.

Eiffel Tower Makeup Paint

Although the Eiffel Tower, which is one of the most touristic places in France, rises majesticly in the city with its height of 324 meters, the workers on the tower state that the new paint to be made is a make-up for the Olympics and the tower needs solid maintenance. When Gustave Eiffel first built the tower, he stated that this structure had to be repainted every 7 years.

The tower, which will be repainted for the Olympics, will thus be the 20th time it has been painted since it was built. Although the average determined by Eiffel in terms of quantity has been met, the metal fatigue of the tower has increased considerably, according to Sete, which is responsible for the maintenance of the tower. Another paint company stated that the paint processes were insufficient and that the paint made without removing the old paint would increase the rusting.

On the tower’s own website, architect, engineer and historian Bertrand Lemoine states that the tower can stand forever thanks to the regular painting process. The 60 million euro painting process to be done on the Eiffel Tower will not cover the entire tower, but will be applied to the worst-case spots. The tower was last painted with paints produced in Karabük.
