Sugary drinks and foods occupy an important place in our lives. It is known that sugary products, which are constantly consumed in daily nutrition, only as junk food, invite many diseases if they are consumed excessively. Sugary products, which adults consume with the guilt that they should be reduced constantly and give up at first when starting a diet, are indispensable for children. Some experts do not find it helpful to cut out sugar and sugary products completely in children.

So far, a lot of research has been done on the effect of sugar on the physical and other health problems. But there isn’t much research on its short- and long-term effects on the brain. However, a new study investigating the effect of sugary drinks on children’s brain activity shows that there will be more interest in this subject in the future. Sugary drinks affect children’s behavior and school success, according to research published in the journal Health Economics.

Girls were not as impressed as boys

As part of the study, 462 preschool children were given a can of sugary drink or a beverage with artificial sweeteners and no sugar. In the first randomized trial, 10 preschool classes were administered. Students’ math skills were tested before and 45 minutes after the beverage. In the second random experiment, the same application was applied to 15 preschool classes. Mathematical skills of the students were tested before drinking, and after 30 minutes, 1 hour and 2 hours after drinking.

It was determined that the math skills of the female students who drank sugary drinks after the application improved in the following hours and decreased after two hours. It was determined that male students had a decrease in their mathematics skills and negative effects such as restlessness and distraction continued even after two hours.

The team and experts who conducted the study stated that they do not yet know why there is such a difference between boys and girls as a result of the research in question. However, the results indicate that more work needs to be done in this area.
