Ectomorph, Endomorph, Mesomorph Body Types and Traits

If you can't develop your muscles, gain or lose weight, you may not be applying a training and diet program suitable for your body type. You can learn which of the three different body types you have, namely ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph, and organize your programs accordingly.

Everyone has a problem with their body. Some want to gain weight, some want to lose weight, some want to build muscle. It is possible to do all this, the important thing is how you do it. Although everyone’s body is unique, it is possible to talk about three basic body types. You can organize your diet and training program by learning which body types you have, called ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph.

Of course, it would be wrong to think that billions of people have only three basic body types. Most people are not ectomorph, endomorph or mesomorph, but a mixture of two body types. However, knowing which of these basic body types are closest to you is a good start for customizing your diet and training program. Let’s get to know the ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph body types a little more closely.

Let’s start with the basics, what is a body type?

Body type theory, which is divided into three groups as ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph, was first put forward by an American scientist, William H. Sheldon, in the 1940s. Oddly enough, Sheldon was a psychologist. Therefore, his theory was based on behavioral patterns rather than physical characteristics and was therefore considered invalid.

Although the first theory was considered invalid, it was developed over time and it was seen that people can be evaluated in three basic body types called ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph. However, not everyone can be evaluated on a single body type. Most people have common features of both ectomorph, endomorph, and mesomorph body types. The body types mentioned are not related to the height or shortness of the people.

Three basic body types people have:

  • Ectomorph
  • Endomorph
  • Mesomorph

Neither fat, neither muscle: Ectomorph

  • Body structure is narrow and thin-boned.
  • Muscle development is difficult.
  • Weight gain is difficult.
  • The thorax is flat.
  • Shoulders are small and narrow.
  • Since there is no fat mass, even the existing muscles are unpretentious.
  • Its metabolism is very fast.

Ectomorph is the body structure that is also called skinny among the people. People with this body type have an extremely thin build. They can hold neither muscle nor fat. It is extremely difficult for them to gain weight when their metabolism works fast. Even if they gain weight, they lose it quickly. In other words, individuals with this body type do not have any problems with losing weight.

People with ectomorphic body structure need to consume intense calories in order to gain weight, and even they need to eat before going to sleep in order to spend the calories they take to a minimum. For muscle development, they need to do short and intense work on large muscle groups. They also need many nutritional supplements during active body development.

Plenty of fat, plenty of muscle: Endomorph

  • Body lines are round and soft.
  • Easy to lubricate.
  • Builds muscle easily.
  • Fat is difficult to burn.
  • Metabolism works slowly.
  • It is difficult to lose weight.
  • Muscle structures are fat.

Endomorph is the thickest body type. Individuals with this body type have a fat but strong body. It is extremely easy for them to gain weight. Most of the weight they gain is fat. They need hard training. As they stop training, they gain weight quickly and cannot lose the weight they gain easily.

Individuals with endomorph body structure need intense cardio work. They burn fat by accelerating their metabolism with cardio. They need to follow a protein-heavy diet as they can easily store carbohydrates as fat. They do not need any food supplements during active body development.

Big, strong muscles: Mesomorph

  • Body build is extremely athletic.
  • It has lively and hard body lines.
  • Muscle structures are lean.
  • The chest structure is prominent.
  • Can build muscle easily.
  • It is easier to lubricate than ectomorph and more difficult than endomorph.

The mesomorph body structure, also called natural strength, seems like it was born to get muscular. Individuals with this body type start to develop muscles quickly and efficiently as soon as they start training. Because they are naturally strong, training programs can be developed quickly.

Even if they have dense muscle mass, they can still lose their strength by getting fat if they are not careful. They need muscle training and cardio. It is the most advantageous body type in body development. People with a mesomorph body structure can maintain their athletic body structure by paying attention to the calories they take and not interrupting their training.

Some tips for quick body type detection:

  • If you lose weight quickly, you’re mesomorph.
  • If you can’t lose weight easily, you are endomorph.
  • If you say you can’t gain weight or something, you are an ectomorph.
  • If you can eat and eat and not gain weight, you are an ectomorph.
  • If you do not gain weight by eating carefully, you are mesomorph.
  • If you drink water, you are endomorph.
  • If you have thin bones, you are an ectomorph.

How important are body types?

When we look at ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph body types and their prominent features, we all see ourselves as close to one body type. If you take a closer look, you’ll probably see that you have features from both body types. In other words, there is no need to make these three basic body types the main variable of customizing diet and training by giving importance to these three basic body types.

Sorting billions of people into three basic body types is not a productive method. If it were, there would be no one left with a weight problem. Everyone’s body type is unique. You can have thin bones but easily developing muscle structure. You can have a body that is easily lubricated, but also a muscle structure that does not develop easily. After all, these are features that can vary.

If you have really decided to gain weight, lose weight and do sports, first go to an internal medicine specialist to see if you have a biological problem. Then go to a dietitian and create a good nutrition program. Finally, get a good training program from a sports consultant and start implementing them right away. Do not miss the doctor’s checkups.

We examined body types over three basic structures called ectomorph, endomorph and mesomorph and talked about the prominent features of these three body types. You can share which body type you have and your thoughts about body types in the comments.
