EA Sports has announced that it is “exploring” the possibility of renaming the FIFA game series. This raises the possibility that the recently released FIFA 22 will be the last game in the series, named FIFA.
“Looking forward, we’re also exploring the idea of renaming our global EA Sports football games,” a blog post said. Another notable sentence is this: “This means that we are reviewing our naming rights agreement with FIFA, which is separate from all our other official partnerships and licenses in the football world.” This is where the question of whether there is a dispute between EA Sports and FIFA arises.
The blog post reads, “Through the years we’ve built our global franchise, we also know that authenticity is essential to experience. That’s why we’re providing access to more than 17,000 athletes in over 700 teams in 100 stadiums and 30+ leagues around the world.” This is how much we focus on the collective strength of more than 100 individually licensed partners.”
It is not yet clear what exactly we should make of this statement. But it is possible to say this: Do not be surprised if you see EA Sports switching to a football game that does not bear the FIFA name in the near future!
