Electronic Arts announced that they have decided to remove the Russian national team and the Russian league from the FIFA game series. This decision is one of the latest examples added to the sanctions and decisions taken after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Russian teams have already been suspended by FIFA and UEFA, two of EA Sports’ partners. Russia will not play against Poland in the World Cup play-off semi-finals and Spartak Moscow has been expelled from the Europa League.
EA Sports said in a statement, “EA Sports stands in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, like many voices in the football world, calls for peace and an end to the occupation of Ukraine. In line with our partners at FIFA and UEFA, the Russian national “Processes have been initiated to remove the team and all Russian clubs from EA Sports FIFA products. These games include FIFA 22, FIFA mobile and FIFA Online.”
As it will be remembered, many international sports federations, especially FIFA, banned Russian teams from tournaments and banned Russian athletes from participating in competitions.
