The fact that EA Games is a money-hungry company has become a joke among the gaming community. Gamers have been mocking the in-game shopping system in EA Games’ games for years, whether it’s FIFA Ultimate Team, Battlefield Battle Pack, or Star Wars Battlefront. This time, however, it looks like EA really has its eye on our wallets.
You know that most of the ads in the games on your smartphones are shaped by your activities, and you come across ads on the topics you are interested in. EA Games is now planning to turn to such a strategy in its games.
EA Games has patented the system where you will see in-game content and advertisements according to your playing style.
According to the description and diagrams of EA Games’ newly acquired patent, the patent includes a system that determines a ‘persona’ for the user based on game activities. This system will show players in-game content and advertisements based on their persona.
Player personas in the patent’s diagrams include explorer, competitive, foraging, support, warrior, ‘tank/frontline, leader, and companion categories. After determining a player’s personality, the system uses an algorithm that determines what is shown to users in that category when selecting data to provide to the player.
The system compares a player’s personality with the average personalities of players playing different games, and if there are similarities in the comparisons, advertisements for the game in question are displayed.
