A while ago, Apple announced that it is working on a new feature where we can add documents such as driver’s license and ID to the Apple Wallet application. According to the information shared on the company’s website, this update will come in the first half of 2022. So who can use it? Here are the details…
Apple Wallet will recognize IDs and driver’s licenses
Apple is preparing for the upcoming rollout of this new feature to be added to the Wallet app. In the second beta version of iOS 15.4 shared today, it turned out that a relevant information was shared. In the relevant version, the following words were included:
Find out when your driver’s license or ID is ready to use and get important updates about your identity.
Apple announced last year that Arizona and Georgia would be among the first states to support the feature. He said that these would be followed by Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma and Utah.
Other states such as Colorado, Delaware, Florida, and Louisiana already offer their own digital identity applications. Therefore, a quick work on the Wallet application integration with Apple will suffice.
Apple says certain TSA security checkpoints will be the first places in the Wallet app where ID cards can be presented. He says retailers and various venues may monitor them in the future.
While there are code-level preparations for the feature, it’s still not possible to add a driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet app in the second beta of iOS 15.4. However, according to Apple’s predicted date, it seems likely that iOS 15.4 will be available to the public with its public release in March or April.
It is still unclear when the company will bring Apple Pay and Wallet features to our country. However, leaks in the past said that Apple is working on a new NFT payment technology and that it will make these applications available all over the world with its use. Therefore, we can see the steps taken in this regard recently.
