Dreams, the PlayStation 4 game creation tool, is about to be unplugged

Media Molecule has announced that it is ending live support for Dreams, which focuses on game creation. “As we continue to evaluate and develop our priorities for Studio and Dreams, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue live support for Dreams after September 1, 2023,” the announcement says.

Dreams isn’t completely shut down, meaning players will be able to continue creating new things in the game. However, the game will not receive any further updates and will not continue to host community-centric events such as Media Molecule DreamsCom or the Impy Awards.

The aforementioned shutdown unfortunately also answers the Dreams community’s long question, “When will we be able to export the “creations” in the game to other platforms than the Sony-exclusive platform? In past interviews, Dreams developers said they were working on ways for players to export their games elsewhere, but that never happened. And now that the game’s support has ended, it doesn’t seem likely from now on.
