The year 2022 did not go well for the technology sector. While the shares of technology companies lost 400 billion dollars in value, the demand for electronic devices and chips also decreased. As a result, average prices also fell.

Bleeding in the DRAM market

According to research, DRAM spot market prices have decreased by around 40 percent in 2022. From January to late autumn, prices fell to their lowest levels in many categories. It is stated that especially DDR4 and DDR3 memory circuits suffer great losses.

Another interesting development was the loss of value of 8GB DDR5 RAM modules by 43 percent. At the beginning of the year, DDR5 RAM memory was quite expensive and was hovering at premium levels. A user who clenched his teeth for about 9 months enjoyed almost half the price reduction. For example, 2x 8GB DDR5 kits dropped to $63.

Sources think that 2023 is not very promising either. Due to the low demand, DRAM manufacturers are forced to cut production. As stocks accumulate, a price increase is unlikely.
