Like almost all US presidents, Donald Trump has had to deal with the disasters caused by hurricanes during his presidency. But unlike other presidents, he allegedly asked his men to investigate the possibility that the hurricanes were fired from some type of hurricane weapon by China.
At the beginning of his term, Trump asked national security aides if China had a weapon that could create hurricanes and direct them towards the United States, according to anonymous sources close to the former president who spoke to Rolling Stone. After asking about this potential weapon, which almost certainly does not exist, he justified military action against China, which has the world’s third largest nuclear arsenal, asking his staff whether using such a weapon could be considered an act of war.
“It was almost too stupid to put into words,” a source told Rolling Stone, adding: “I didn’t feel like he was joking.”
The President brought up the hurricane gun a few more times before finally giving up on the idea in 2018. Shortly before the president proposed the idea of dropping atomic bombs on hurricanes during a hurricane briefing, China brought up the idea once again, according to sources.
Oddly enough, however, Trump wasn’t the only one to propose the idea.
In the Frequently Asked Questions section of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) website, “Every hurricane season someone always says ‘why don’t we nuke tropical hurricanes’ or ‘can we use nuclear weapons to destroy a hurricane?’ he asks. Aside from the fact that this may not even replace the storm, this approach neglects the problem that the radioactive fallout released can move quite quickly with the winds to affect land areas and cause devastating environmental problems. Needless to say, it’s not a good idea.”
Due to the nature of hurricanes, it is possible to make them disappear by increasing air pressure.
The idea is so pervasive that it is refuted annually by first-year physics students at Austalia National University
For example, Professor Paul Francis says, “Bombing a hurricane would be as effective as trying to stop an oil tanker with a gun,” and continues: “A hurricane would typically be about 100,000 times more powerful than the most powerful nuclear bomb the United States has ever had.”
