Former US President Donald Trump’s new social media platform TRUTH Social has recently started its test broadcast. However, it is stated that the platform violated a license agreement during testing and has 30 days to fix this bug. Otherwise the platform will stop working.
The new platform came into existence after the former President promised to set up his own website to express his views, after being banned from almost all popular social media platforms during the pandemic and violent protests on Capitol Hill.
Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), which developed the platform, used Mastdodon, a free and open source software that allows anyone to run self-hosted social networking services. Anyone using Mastadon code must be compliant with AGPLv3, the software license that manages the code. AGPLv3 says that no matter who uses the platform, it should share the source code with all users. As you can imagine, TMTG didn’t do this when they released the test version of the site.
TRUTH Social has been given 30 days to fix this error. Otherwise, it will lose all administrative rights and the platform will be shut down before it is fully opened.
