Atari is here once again with the Atari 2600+, a modernized version of the original Atari 2600 game console that was released 48 years ago in September 1977. Moreover, the console is not for show. The Atari 2600+ can play hundreds of original Atari 2600 and Atari 7800 game cartridges. You can browse the full backward compatibility list to see if your old cartridges will work with this new console.

Very similar to the Atari 2600+ original. It also includes features such as an HDMI port for quick connection to modern televisions. The Atari logo also shines on the console, and the cartridge slot has been made slightly larger than the original so the cartridges don’t get stuck as much as they used to.

In addition to the console itself, it comes with the CX40+ Joystick, which emulates the joystick found on the original Atari 2600. The new console comes with a second joystick port, so you can buy a second CX40+ for two-player games. Atari will also launch a CX-30 Paddle Controller.

If you don’t have any Atari game cartridges, the good news is that the Atari 2600+ will come with a cartridge containing 10 games. The games in the cartridge are:

  • adventure
  • Combat
  • Dodge Em
  • haunted house
  • Mase Craze
  • Missile Command
  • RealSports Vollyball
  • surround
  • Video Pinball
  • Yars Revenge

As announced at launch, Berzerk Enhanced Edition and Mr. Additional game cartridges with games such as Run and Jump will also be available.

The Atari 2600+ is available for pre-order for $129.99 with the included CX40+ Joystick and 10-game cartridge and will ship on November 17. Extra CX-40 Joysticks are available for $24.99.

The two CX30+ Paddle Controllers, which come with their own four-game cartridges (Breakout, Canyon Bomber, Night Driver, and Video Olymppics) will cost $39.99.
