Blockchain security firm CertiK has received a $500,000 reward from the Sui network after identifying a threat with the potential to disrupt the Sui blockchain.

In an announcement to Cointelegraph, the CertiK team highlighted that the vulnerability, dubbed HamsterWheel, is different from traditional attacks that focus on stopping blockchains by crashing nodes. This attack traps nodes, allowing them to transact without committing new transactions.

Sui Takes Steps to Avoid Potential Harms

Responding to CertiK’s security threat, which reported the vulnerability to Sui after discovering the vulnerability, the Sui network implemented fixes to prevent potential damage to the blockchain from the attack.

Following the developments, Sui awarded the security company a $500,000 reward in recognition of CertiK’s efforts. According to CertiK, this highlights the importance of bug bounty programs and proactive security efforts. Making a statement on the subject, CertiK chief security officer Kang Li said that threats to blockchain networks are constantly evolving.

“The discovery of the HamsterWheel attack demonstrates the evolving sophistication of threats to blockchain networks,” Li continued. According to the statements made, more technical details are expected to be announced and made available in the future.
