Discord, which is used by players to establish new communities and maintain communication with each other, announced a significant change today. The platform, which has followed a certain standard in user names since the day it was founded, is now saying goodbye to this standard.
On Discord, each user carried a code like “#0000” in addition to their designated username (@username). Without this code and username, you couldn’t find a user you wanted to find. Now this is changing.
Private usernames are coming to Discord:
Discord has announced that from now on, each user will have their own unique username, leaving the code “#0000” completely. In this way, the same username will no longer be carried on Discord, and everyone will have a unique name.
New user-specific usernames in Discord will also be determined by Discord users. The platform announced that it will soon ask all its users to set custom usernames, without giving any dates.
In addition to the new username, a “display name” will now appear, just like we saw on Twitter. Your display name will be your name on the messages you send and the servers you enter.
Characters that can be used in new usernames:
- Latin letters (few)
- Numbers (0-9)
- Underscore (_) and period (.) characters only
Rules for usernames:
- Minimum 2, maximum 32 characters long
- lower case only
- Dots cannot be used twice in a row (like a..b)
- Username must comply with Community Guidelines
- Discord cannot spoof Discord team and Discord system messages
- May not impersonate an individual, group or organization
- It cannot be intended to attack people, it cannot spread hatred.
- No sexually explicit language
Characters that can be used for the display name:
The display name will not have as limited rules as the username. Users will be able to add almost anything they want to their display name. In addition to Latin letters, spaces, emojis, upper-lowercase letters and non-Latin letters can also be used.
Of course, there won’t be some rules in the display name either:
- Minimum 1, maximum 32 characters long
- Must abide by Community Guidelines
- Discord cannot spoof Discord team and Discord system messages
- May not impersonate an individual, group or organization
- It cannot be intended to attack people, it cannot spread hatred.
- No sexually explicit language
We don’t stop with username and display name either, special names for servers and nicknames for friends are coming:
Yes, Discord hasn’t stopped just making the switch to the Twitter-like system. You can now specify special names for servers. For example, your display name on one server may be ‘Phibi’, while on another server it may be ‘Wumpus’.
You can also add nicknames to your friends. In this way, your friend’s display name will be a nickname you specify.
When will Discord’s new change be released?
Discord has yet to give a date for the username and display name change. It only pointed to the coming weeks. In addition, it was stated that the notifications to be sent for the order of determining the username will be chronological according to the opening date of the accounts.
